Elsinor is a captivating city in the North East coast of Zealand where the castle of Kronbrog is situated. Kronborg is on the World Heritage List. Shakespeare’s famous tragedy Hamlet is based in Kronborg. Beautiful Elsinor forms a fundamental part of history and development in Denmark.
Today Elsinor is a satellite city of Copenhagen and the centre for shopping in Northern Zealand. It is a distinguished tourist attraction, both culturally and for vacation. Elsinor has been the setting of some writers’ tales that later have been cinematised, too. It is possible to do a tour through its medieval streets and the pedestrian street, before visiting Kronborg or the Danish Maritime Museum, also situated in the city.
Elsinor is part of the region of Øresund, the Sound, and lies 2.5 miles (4 km) from Sweden. There is a ferry to Sweden with frequent departures.
